Deshima Weekly Catch #9

Deshima • Mar 15, 2023

Sea Ltd, Apple, Meta and Nexi

Sea Ltd : The e-commerce and payment leader in South-East Asia announced very good quarterly numbers way above consensus expectations. Profitability has been reached earlier than planned. The share price rallied 20% on the news.

Apple : According to the Financial Times, Apple is going to unveil a “mixed-reality” headset later this year, that may, at some stage, rival the iPhone.

Meta : According to internal sources, Meta is going to announce this week a new wave of job cut. This comes after the first November move of 11,000 job cuts out from 87,000. Wall Street should react positively. However, the focus on cost discipline fails to address Meta main issue: its dire lack of new growth credible engine.

Nexi : Nexi a digital payment platform which focuses on Southern Europe indicated, during their earnings call, that there is still a huge gap between northern countries (Sweden, Norway) where digital payment penetration rate is above 80% compared to 40% for Southern Europe (Spain, Italy).
